Why a Seat Ibiza Replacement Key Won't Work
A new generation of driver assistance enhances the Ibiza to a completely new level. Travel Assist ensures that your vehicle keeps pace with traffic while Lane Assist eliminates the stress of changing lanes.
Take off the cover of the battery compartment on the key fob (A). By using a flat-head screwdriver a thumb nail to pry the cover upwards, then replace the CR2025.
Dead Coin Battery
If your key fob stopped functioning and you're not capable of reprogramming it with an updated code, then the most likely cause is a dead battery in the coin. The replacement of this battery should make it functional and running again. You can do it yourself in under 10 minutes.
The key is opened from the side with no rings made of metal. There's a simple clip-on lid, that you can lever open using your nail. The old battery can be pushed out through the hole in the middle. Be aware that changing the battery in a wrong manner or using an unsuitable battery could damage the remote key. Replace the battery with the same voltage, size, and specification as the original.

If your key fob was submerged in water, you might require cleaning the chip before replacing the battery. It is particularly important if the device was dropped into the ocean or soapy water. This should be done immediately, as exposure to water can damage the electronic chip and cause the key fob to stop functioning.
Worn Buttons
Seat Ibiza keys stop working the majority of the time often because the battery is dead. It is a simple fix that takes just a few moments. The key fob can cease to function if the buttons are worn. It is a simple fix that only requires replacing the key shell that was used to replace it with an entirely new one.
It is essential to replace the button cell battery correctly, or the key fob might be damaged. It is recommended that you always use a new battery with the same size, voltage and specification. It's also important that the side of the new battery is facing upwards.
The key fob is secured by rubber seals that will keep water out. The submersion of the keyfob could cause the seals on the keyfob to break, damaging the chip's electronic components. This is typically the case in the event that your key fob has been placed in the rain or falls into the pool. If your key fob does not work after replacing it or reprogramming, the receiver module could be defective.
G28 Car Keys Damage
The key fob is fitted with rubber seals to stop water getting into the electronic chip inside. However, this doesn't stop the occasional splash or bath. If you've made it through a washing cycle or swimming in the ocean, the chip may be damaged.
It can be fixed by removing the battery and then cleaning the chip using isopropyl or electronic cleaner. Let it dry completely, then put it back. If the chip is fried it is necessary to replace it with a new one.
If your key fob doesn't work despite changing the battery or reprogramming it, it could be an issue with the receiver module. This is the component in the car that receives signals from the key fob and sends signals to the key ignition system. If you have a spare key fob, you can test it. The central locking should turn on and the ignition system light should come on. If this doesn't occur, then the receiver module may be faulty. This is a costly fix but can be rectified by a professional at your local garage.
Radio Interference
If your car's radio appears to be acting out of order or the key fob is no longer working it could be caused by an interference issue with the receiver module within the key. Seat parts can be used to provide a replacement key that has an entirely new receiver.
To replace the battery, take off the key piece and then using your thumb nail or a flat head screwdriver gently prise upwards the key fob's compartment cover. Remove the old CR2025 and replace it with a new battery, making sure that the polarity of the battery is correct. You can also use a regular key that has a transponder chip which was before on a worn or damaged key. It can be cut and coded to your car, if needed.
Faulty Receiver Module
The receiver module is the component inside the key fob which transmits radio signals to the car. The module could be in trouble when the fob ceases to function. This can be identified by using an OBDII scanner or by contacting the dealer.
Other devices that use the same frequency can interfere with the remote keyless entry system. This includes mobile phones, electrical devices, and even some household appliances.
If the key fob is in contact with pure tap water, it might be possible to clean the chip using paper towels and isopropyl Alcohol. If the key fob is submerged in soapy or salt water, or sits on a wet floor for prolonged periods, this is most likely to cause damage and it will likely require replacement.
To change the battery, you can use small screwdrivers with flat heads or a fingernail, to pry open the compartment for button cell batteries (B). Remove the old battery, and replace it with the new CR2025, making sure that the "+" polarity of the battery is directed upwards.
